Worship expressed in songs, dance, audio, multimedia and creative presentation.
The Worship Ministry encourages the congregation to pursue a wonderful life for Christ.
WHO AM I?
I was recently drawn to this song by Casting Crown, and immediately examined myself (again?). Over the years I have been placed in position of leadership in various areas... and not necessarily from my choice i.e. Chairman of Celebration of Praise, Building Chairman, Cell Leader, Worship Director, Board Member. Yes, looking back I did NOT volunteered for these positions but rather, obediently avail myself when called upon.
Though the song speaks of how much God loves me despite how undeserving I may be and how temporal we all are (Chorus: I am a flower quickly fading, Here today and gone tomorrow, A wave tossed in the ocean, A vapour in the wind), somehow I am drawn to the thoughts of why I am asked to lead. Who am I?
Don’t get me wrong, I’m NOT saying I’m a great leader but rather WHY am I asked to lead. When I look at ALL of us in the worship ministry, WE ALL ARE leaders! We lead the people into praise & worship such that they can experience God’s presence... that’s our job. So, leading has become like second nature to most of us.
Though at times we wander, fall, sin... He would look upon us with love and watch us rise again! All because we belong to Him! Amen!
Who am I? The willingness and desire to serve Him and lead His people is a humbling thought and I quote the famous poet Francis Quarles:
If thou desire the love of God and people, be humble,
for the proud heart, as it loves none but itself, is beloved of none but itself.
Humility enforces where neither virtue, nor strength, nor reason can prevail.
And Ralph W. Sockman, senior pastor of Christ Church, New York has this to say:
True humility is intelligent self-respect which keeps us from thinking too highly or too meanly of
ourselves. It makes us mindful of the nobility God meant us to have.
Yet it makes us modest by reminding us how far we have come short of what we can be.
My view thus is that it is ok to ask ourselves from time to time “Who Am I” with humility, acknowledging that God is in control and that we do all we do because He loves us and we honour Him with our service! “If music be the fruit of love, play on!” – William Shakespeare.
Your humble servant,
Bro. K H Lau
