AN INVITATION TO SPONSOR OR DONATE FOR OUR CHARIS CHARITY RUN 2009
We are pleased to inform you that Charis Christian Centre (“CHARIS”) will be organizing a Jogathon Program with a theme entitled “A Heart for the Community” on the 31 August 2009 at Taman Tasik Permaisuri, Cheras, Kuala Lumpur. Through this program, we will be seeking donations from friends and families in terms of cash in order to raise funds for the many welfare works that we are doing to help our community.
CHARIS has been involved with the following community and social services over the past 15 years.
1. Haemodialysis Treatment
Since 1997, CHARIS in partnership with the National Kidney Foundation of Malaysia, has been operating the Charis-NKF Dialysis Centre at our shop lot premises. The centre started with an initial 10 machines and has since increased to 28 machines, providing treatment to about 139 patients from the lower income group and represented from all walks of life.
Kidney disease is a life threatening disease. There is no known cure for kidney failure and the condition of anyone stricken with kidney failure turns fatal within 2 weeks unless he/she has a transplant or undergoes dialysis treatment. Each year, over 2,000 Malaysians afflicted with end-stage renal failure may die not because medical science cannot help them, but because they cannot afford the costs of dialysis. (Private hospitals and clinics charge RM150 to RM300 per treatment and each patient needs at least 3 treatments a week.)
2. Home For The Underprivileged (Rumah Sayangan)
Rumah Sayangan was set up some 18 years ago to meet the needs of underprivileged, abused, abandoned and orphaned children, irrespective of race, creed or religion for the enhancement of their holistic well being. In addition to basic needs such as education, food, shelter, clothing, fun, games and love, the children are also helped in their physical, mental, social and spiritual development.
Since inception, more than 60 children have passed through the doors of Rumah and received much care and love. Some have already left the home to be reunited with their families. And some literally grew up in the home until such time they came of age and were able to fend for themselves. Presently, Rumah is home to 16 children ranging from age 4 to 18.
3. Assistance For The Exploited Women
SAFE is an outreach where assistance will be given to those sex workers, drug dependants and women in crisis. Helping the exploited women to be made whole and live a meaningful life. We seek to assist these women to be gainfully employed as they leave their former lives.
4. Kids Kingdom
Providing free English lessons to children from the lower income family at Taman Tenaga Community Hall.
5. Love Cheras Clinic at the Sri Johor flats
Providing free medical, legal and other helps to the community.
