2 Corinthians speaks about the harsh realities of life and the unbreakable faith in the work of the Spirit that sustains us through difficult and dangerous times. As an apology for Paul’s apostolic ministry, 2 Corinthians is filled with challenges for God’s people today. Paul’s experience of God, understanding of Christ, his apostolic authority, his willingness to suffer for the cause of Christ and his love for God’s people calls into question the easy Christianity of urban materialistic culture. He unmasks the cheap grace of today’s repentant-less forgiveness, the more ‘obedience to God legalism’ and the complacency we feel over the spiritual condition of others. As one of Paul’s most personal letters, 2 Corinthians is also rich in pastoral help.
